I have an old 2007 iMac that has a broken operating system. I am automatically redirected to recovery mode on it, and try to reinstall MacOS Yosemite, but it was used and we don't know the apple id to fix it, and it keeps throwing the error 'this item is temporarily unavailable'. The good news is that I have a MacBook Air 2020 that works perfectly fine, but we can't seem to install OS X El Capitan 10.11 on it because it keeps saying 'update not found. the requested version of macos is not available.' on the Mac App Store. Here is the link I tried to install it from:https://apps.apple.com/app/os-x-el-capitan/id1147835434?mt=12I need to install this on my computer first and then use the 'createinstallmedia' command in terminal to load it onto a USB flash drive.PS: I have tried installing the dmg of this and restoring to the USB in Disk Utility but it did not load in startup mode when you restart your mac and press and hold 'option' and I don't wan't to go through the pain of doing it this way again;Ok, my question: How do I fix this 'update not found' error when trying to install El Capitan from the Mac App Store on my 2020 MacBook Air?Thanks!

Attempted to re-install os x el capitan and keep getting 'this item is. I'm trying to reinstall the OS X Mavericks but get the message that the item is temporarily.

Q: How do you handle wiped drive where you now can’t reinstall El Capitan from recovery because the “item is temporarily unavailable” (macos, hard drive, install, recovery, Apple)? A: Reboot into macOS Recovery Mode. Format/partition the drive using Disk Utility (again) Quit Disk Utility; Install macOS; Done. I boot up in recovery disc. I select disc utility. Erase with format os x extended (journaled) Quit utility and select reinstall osx, in this case el capitan. I follow the prompts, but when I sign in with my appl id it just says 'this item is temporarily unavailable. Try again later'. If you must reinstall a previously-released version of OS X, you need to restore your Mac using the Time Machine backup that you created before you installed the OS X public beta. Restore your Mac. It sounds tho as you may not be logged into your mac with the same apple ID you used for the beta program or you've already exited.

Upgrade from previous versions to OS X 10.11 (El Capitan)

  1. From the Apple menu, select App Store....

  3. Once the download is complete, the installer should automatically open.

If it doesn't, or you don't want to complete the installation at this time, you can come back later and double-click Install OS X El Capitan in your Applications folder.

Within the installer, click Continue, agree to the license agreement, and then choose the disk where you want to install El Capitan.

After you begin the installation, your computer may need to restart more than once before finishing, and then you may be asked to enter basic information.

  4. From the Apple menu, select App Store..., and then install any available updates.

To reinstall or recover El Capitan, you must have an active internet connection. If you are on campus at IU, UITS recommends the wired Ethernet network instead of wireless. However, if IUSecure is your only option, see Connect to an IU wireless network in macOS if booted from your Recovery HD.
